Wildlife + Old Florida Ruins
A National Wildlife Refuge and Sanctuary, Egmont Key and State Park has been named Florida's Top Beach locations. The Key is one of the areas most beautiful places to explore the grounds.
Wild Gopher Tortoises, Florida Box Turtles, Loggerhead Sea Turtles and countless varieties of rare birds, including migratory birds and native sea birds have been spotted on the island.
Home of the old Fort Dade, many ruins of the original infrastructure are still present on the island today.
A true gem, Shell Key Island Preserve serves as one of the County’s largest undeveloped barrier islands, including numerous mangrove islands and expansive seagrass beds.
This 1,800-acre preserve protects sensitive marine habitats, yet one of the main reasons locals and tourists flock to the island is for the massive amount of sea shells that can be found along the expansive and beautiful shorelines.
Come see why the island is coveted by tourists and natives alike!

A Safe and Fun environment for friends and families
Yes — it’s a great option for families who want a mix of beach time and exploring. If you’re bringing children, we’ll help you plan a route that fits your group’s comfort level.
Often, yes — but it depends on the tour length, conditions, and what else you want to do.
We offer a captained tubing + wakeboarding experience, and we can sometimes combine activities with an island day. CALL US to customize so we can match the right timing and route.
Yes — Egmont is known for “Old Florida” history and the remains of Fort Dade. If that’s your priority, book enough time so you can walk the island without rushing.
It can be — conditions change day to day. If snorkeling is a priority, bring your own gear and ask your captain what areas are best based on visibility, current, and boat traffic that day.
Egmont Key is best when you have time to actually explore. We recommend at least 4 hours if your goal is island time (walking the ruins + swimming). If you want a slower pace, more snorkeling time, or sandbar time before/after, go longer when available.
Bring towels, non-spray sunscreen, water shoes (or sandals you can get wet), and a hat. If you want to snorkel, bring your own snorkel set/goggles (and fins if you have them). Egmont is more “explore and walk,” so plan for a little more gear than a quick sandbar stop.

They’re different experiences. Shell Key is best for shelling + quiet shoreline time. Egmont Key is best for history + wildlife + exploring. If you tell us your goal, we’ll recommend the better fit.
Shell Key is perfect for a shorter island day. We recommend 3–4 hours if your plan is shelling, swimming, and relaxing. Go longer if you want a slow pace, extra stops, or time to really explore the preserve shoreline.
Bring towels, non-spray sunscreen, water shoes, and a mesh bag or small tote if you plan to collect shells. Shell Key is the “walk the shoreline and take your time” kind of day, so snacks and water are always a good idea (and yes, you can bring a full cooler of whatever you want).
